Hoisting his books into a firmer hold against his hip, Lorcan Scamander scrolled absently through his mTunes player. There was a ton of music on it, mostly bizarre stuff. He didn't care much for the Weird Sisters -- they were a bit too out there, even for his taste. And they were his parents' generation, so that pretty much put them on the taboo list for people his age. He was considered odd enough by his classmates already; there was no reason to encourage them and add to that frame of mind. Lorcan was, by his own definition, "the weirdest geek known to wizardkind". He had music in different languages -- Japanese, Italian and Spanish were some of his favorites -- and a ton of Muggle music. Another type of music that was probably on the taboo list of a bunch of old pureblood families. Lorcan shrugged off that thought. His family was considered one of the old pureblood families too, so that shouldn't matter. But at the same time, his parents, especially his mum, was considered odd by most in society. She'd told him stories of her school days before, and Lorcan couldn't blame people for their assumptions. Yes, his mum had been odd.
But on the topic of Muggle music... Lorcan was positive that most of the stuff on his mTunes player would get him at the very least beaten up by several of his extremely-pro-pureblood classmates. Although he had some good rock on file, he also had soulful country -- the kind of songs where you actually had to listen to the words (Merlin forbid) and couldn't just listen to something for the "music". The music was in the words, and that's what Lorcan loved. And moreover, ninety-five percent of Lorcan's music was considered "oldies". Stuff from the early 2000s, not his current generation. Thing was, Lorcan held to the belief that the older generation's music held something -- a different spirit than the music of his day. Something more freeing in the words and the tones. He settled on Taylor Swift's latest album and slipped the player back in his pocket. Sure the music was old, but that didn't stop it being relevant.
A black-and-grey cat suddenly darted past his feet, and Lorcan smiled. At least Gothica, his cat, was enjoying Hogwarts today. With it raining outside, Lorcan would have little chance of getting anything accomplished outside. He had a bit of studying to catch up on, and after that he'd probably hole up in a corner of the library as per the usual with a new book. Lorcan went through books like nobody's business. Even he knew it was ridiculous.
His books slipped and Lorcan stumbled momentarily to hoist them back into a secure position against his hip as he rounded the corner. Next thing he knew, all four of his books had scattered and he was knocked backward. He very nearly lost his balance and teetered for a moment on his heels before regaining his composure. Lorcan glanced up and saw another boy. "Sorry about that," he murmured, switching his gaze across the floor to locate his books.
