CAYDENDAKOTASKYLAR
here it goes again, put on that deserving tone and don't forget that this was all your fault, it's breathing down your neck, you know you've got to let this go, you're such a wreck and now it starts to show cause all you can't deny is held inside and when we go, we say goodbye, and then we run, we run away from all we can't deny is just a lie and when we try to just get by we just can't get past ourselves cause where you are is where you'll be always wanting everything, it's all the same that you can't ignore cause all you want is just to be more, it's creeping up again, it's all been considered, it's a game and you're not the winner, it's a haunting memory.

distinguishing features:
a small tattoo of a star on the inside of her left wrist that she got when she was fourteen (much to her parents displeasure), several tiny scars on her hands from working digs with her mother, and a long scar on the inside of her right thigh received during an unfortunate tour of the African plains.
appearance overview:
Cayden is an average-looking sort of girl. She stands at five-foot-five -- a little taller than average for her age but not so much so that it is noticeable. Though slender, she has yet to lose all of her baby fat of her younger adolescent years. When you look at her, she seems rather small and unimportant -- if one were basing such things on appearances only. Her muscles are lean but defined, especially in her arms and legs. Cayden has yet to fully develop the feminine curves that is so prized in modern female beauty -- though the structure of her bones holds promise for the future. Like all young girls, she is merely waiting to grow into herself. Cayden's complexion goes from one extreme to the other: pale in winter and deeply tanned from spring to early autumn. A rare few freckles can be found on her body between these stages.
The style and color of her hair are as changeable as Cayden is. She likes to try new things and can never stick with one style for very long without growing board with it. At the moment, it is dyed a medium auburn and cut in long, choppy layers. Her bangs sweep low across her forehead in the current style. She has been known to go to extremes with her hair -- from black, to blond, to fiery red, to even multicolored. Her face is rounder than most, her cheeks full with a rounded chin. Her nose is, perhaps, a little large for her face but curves in a pert, charming way that distracts from it's size. A set of full, bow-shaped lips a deep rose color sit below it -- a dimple marking the space just below one corner. Cayden has large, almond-shaped eyes the color of a Caribbean sky just before twilight. Long lashes frame them, usually darkened with make-up, making her eyes an outstanding feature in her face.

personality overview:
THE OUTER LAYER;
Many perceive Cayden as being the friendly girl with the bubbly personality and infectious sense of humor. For the most part, this is true. She likes to talk to people and to make everyone feel comfortable. If there is one thing she has never been, it's a wall flower. Though she, herself, likes to be involved at parties and other similar social gatherings she certainly doesn't push that on others. She is easily frustrated, so trying to force a natural wall-flower to become a socializing party-goer has never been her forte. Always, Cayden is one of the louder people in a group and this tends to give some people the idea that she is rather obnoxious. At least, until they actually have a conversation with her.
THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR;
Beneath the bubbly facade lies a girl with a load of insecurities. Like the majority of teenage girls, when Cayden looks in the mirror she usually only sees her faults. Well, most of the time. Going to school with quite a few beautiful girls has made Cayden rather self-conscious. She has good days, where she can hide anything she's feeling inside and feel good for a little while. But her bad days are truly bad. Those are the days where she pulls on her baggy clothing and tries to tune out the rest of the world for a bit. The days where she feels like everyone else is seeing all of the bad things she sees and judging her harshly for them. The bad days are few but noticeable.
THE FAMILY BOND;
Cayden's personality when it comes to her family is one of the protector. She tries to be everything to everybody and do what she can to keep them happy. Though there is a lot of drama, she loves her parents (and Uncle Jack). She hides anything that might hurt or sadden them -- only giving them the best of herself. She is loyal to a fault and would never let anybody say a single word against them. When it comes down to it, Cayden would give up her life for any one of her family members.
THE FRIENDLY BIT;
As the friendly person she is, Cayden has quite the little group of friends. She tends to float from one clique to the next with fair ease, having friends amongst each group. Her closest friends, however, are the ones usually considered the outcasts of the school -- the artists, musicians, and writers not generally accepted by the more popular crowd. They are Cayden's niche, basically, and perhaps know her better than even she does. They understand her and accept her without question or condition and Cayden reciprocates. Rather like the case with her family, Cayden would do anything for a friend.
THE HEART THAT BEATS;
Cayden is one of the very few who can love quickly and deeply. As far as romantic love goes, she has only ever truly loved once in her short life and it ended up in a heartbreak she thought only possible in the romance novels she read for fun. This has sort of jaded her where dating and love are concerned -- not to mention her parents' history making her that much more cautious. Cayden guards her heart, careful not to get close to another person that way again. Instead, she keeps to innocent flirting and things that mean next to nothing emotionally. It's a sort of wall she has built around that part of herself to hold such things at arms length.

WE HOLD IT INSIDE, YEAH, THAT'S HOW IT GOES
WE HOLD IT INSIDE, YEAH, THAT'S HOW IT GOES
immediate family:
Diana Skylar ( mother )- she is flighty archaeologist born and raised in New York City. Cayden spent the majority of the first part of her life traveling around with her mother to different digs. Their relationship is a good one -- open and honest. Diana has always striven to keep the communication open between her and her daughter. There is nothing they do not tell one another. At least, from Diana's perspective.
Kennedy White ( father )- he is a muggle barrister based out of London. He comes from a prominent family of wealthy art dealers throughout Europe. Cayden's relationship with her father is the usual one of that between divorced parents with a single child. Having never really known what it was like to have a normal family relationship, Cayden considers the times when she sees her father (that is, when she is not at school or visiting her mother whilst she is on haitus) as the average father-daughter bonding time. They are fairly close, but Kennedy tends to get a little over-bearing a protective of his daughter.
Michelle Gregory-White ( stepmother )- an English socialite before her marriage to Kennedy. Cayden's relationship with her is almost nonexistent as they are rarely in the same room with one another. The marriage happened barely a year ago and there has been little opportunity for them to get to know one another. Michelle does not know of Cayden's magical ability or schooling.
Alexander and Adrienne Gregory ( the step-evils )- they are Cayden's older step-siblings. They are twins, socialites like their mother, with very little care for anybody but themselves. Cayden was forced to spend time with them briefly at the wedding and by the end of it was wanting to commit double homicide. If it hadn't been for her impending trip back to Hogwarts for the semester a week later, she might have gone through with it.
Jack Skylar ( uncle )- an antique dealer with stores based both in Manhattan and London, Jack is how Diana and Kennedy first met. Cayden enjoys visiting her uncle when she can and used to spend hours in his office as a child when her mother wasn't traipsing off to go dig up another mummy or forgotten village. He is virtually the only family she has outside of her mother and father.

history:
the beginning ,
The story of how Cayden's parents met is, in her eyes, quite unimportant. For no matter the circumstance, they would never have ended up together anyway. Kennedy and Diana were not only from two different worlds but, possibly, from two different planets. If one were judging by the differences in their attitudes, personality, and general outlook on life, at least. Needless to say, after the alcohol and initial lust wore off (not long after they'd had eloped), the two were quite ashamed of themselves. They quickly parted ways but by that time the damage had already been done. Just a few weeks after signing the annulment papers, Diana realized she was pregnant. At first, she refused to say anything to Kennedy -- fearful that he would try to interfere with her plans to keep the baby. But her brother Jack soon convinced her that it would be the write thing to tell him. Though thoughtless at times, Diana still had morals and the idea of letting her ex-husband go on not knowing he had a child struck a chord with her. If Kennedy wanted nothing to do with the baby, then he should at least be given the choice.
As it turned out, he didn't. At least, not at first. He arranged for a trust fund for the child and for a monthly stipend to be deposited in an account for Diana. But in an angry meeting with her, he'd declared he never wanted to set eyes on the child or even acknowledge it beyond his financial responsibility. One could not truly blame Kennedy for his words, in all honesty. He was barely twenty years old, divorced, be pressured by his family, and just barely passing his university classes -- a child was just the catalyst for many of his angry, trapped, frustrated feelings. In the years to come, when he would wonder about the child he'd refused, he would wonder about what his life could have been like if he'd allowed himself to know his progeny.
the early years ,
During the time that Kennedy was pondering those things, Diana was raising her daughter as best she could traveling to ashrams in India and studying in museums in Egypt. If it hadn't been for Jack helping whenever he could, it was possible that Diana might have given up. When Cayden was old enough to take care of herself for the most part, it became easier for mother and daughter to trek to little known places around the world. All the while, Diana got her archaeological degree via correspondence from Columbia. Once she was certified, they were much more accepted on high profile digs -- turning their lives into something more scientific and important than the kind of treasure hunt it had felt like for as long as Cayden had known it. Sometimes though, while Diana was called upon and accepted in the archaeological community, her daughter was not always.
When Cayden was ten years old, Diana got propositioned to do a dig in Northern Ireland for six months. Unfortunately, there would be nowhere for Cayden if Diana accepted it. But if she didn't, it was very possible that she would lose her accreditation as a scientist in her own right if she turned it down. Jack offered to take Cayden during those months but ended up having to retract it when his business fell into peril and he would be too busy to care for the rambunctious ten-year-old. As difficult as the decision was, there was nothing else for it -- they would have to go to Kennedy for help. For the first time, Diana told her daughter about Kennedy -- all the while dreading asking him. For one thing, he would have to agree. For another, he might repeat the things he'd said that night years ago and this time when Cayden could hear. The whole situations was potentially damaging to all parties involved.
In her usual, impulsive way, Diana showed up with Cayden at Kennedy's London flat. It was a rainy Sunday morning, barely a week before she was supposed to be in Ireland. Desperate, she'd finally worked up the courage to face Kennedy and had gone off willy-nilly before she lost it. At first, when there seemed to be no one home, Diana figured he'd either moved or recognized her and refused to answer the buzz. When the solid white door swung noisily open to a panting mutt of a dog and disheveled version of the man she'd married and divorced all those years ago, there was no mistaking her surprise. Nor Kennedy's, as he recognized her and even the bundled up child she held by the hand. It took some convincing, and a whispered argument in Kennedy's kitchen, but it was finally agreed upon that he would take Cayden for the sixth months that Diana would be gone. She would continue to home school herself, as she had always done, and would just need to be looked after in terms of meals and a place to sleep. At least, that's what Cayden had insisted on during the following discussion.
Over those sixth months, her life subtly changed -- as did Kennedy's. It was rather strange how quickly the bond between father and daughter grew. They were much more alike than either of them thought or would admit to -- sharing a unique sense of humor that seemed to stump the rest of the world. Cayden still talked to her mother regularly and even made a couple of weekend visits to Dublin to see Diana on her days off. Towards the end of those months, Cayden celebrated her eleventh birthday -- the result was quite a shock to the girl and her parents. When the oddly dressed officials from the so-called Ministry of Magic showed up at Kennedy's flat, they didn't know how to react. Kennedy almost called the authorities. But they calmed him and proved that what they said was true. By the end of the day, Cayden was more excited than she'd ever been in her life. And, by then, she was quite used to amazing things and adventures. Diana was, though a little oblivious to it all at that time, just as pleased for her daughter.
the school years ,
Cayden's first year, and second for that matter, at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry were typical. She was sorted in to Hufflepuff, though the importance of the houses were not as important to her then. She spent that time making friends and getting into the groove, so to speak, of going to a magic school. Having never gone to a formal school before then, she really had nothing to compare it too. It was different, of course, but Cayden found she preferred the classes and interaction with other students to be a much better way of learning than trying to figure everything out on your own. That, and she just liked being with other people who were on the same level as she. In her third year, Cayden learned how to play the game Quidditch and was recruited to play on the house team as a keeper. That year was also an important one for her in that she had begun to notice and be noticed in a certain way by the opposite sex.
Her entire fourth year was spent in and out of semi-serious relationships that last no more than a couple of weeks on average. As a naturally flirtatious person, Cayden started to get a little bit of a reputation. By the end of that school year, she had gotten so fed up with some of her so-called friends and the drama they were creating for her, she swore off all contact with anyone outside of her family during that summer. Unfortunately, it probably would have been better for her if she hadn't. For that summer, she fell in love for the first time. She was staying with her father, for Kennedy was the groom of an upcoming society wedding that he wanted her to be apart of. To this day, she isn't quite sure how she and the boy met -- only that they did and she almost wish they hadn't. Almost.
It was a romance that lasted for just a few short weeks -- if it could even be called a romance. The boy was older and seemed to represent everything a rebellious teenager wanted. He was everything her father and mother and uncle had warned against. So, of course, he was irresistible. They spent nearly every day of those six weeks they knew each other together and before all was said and done, Cayden would have sworn they were in love. At least, until the boy convinced her to sleep with him one balmy July night. Until she'd met him, Cayden had never given much thought to sex. Her virginity had always been some sort of abstract idea that she wouldn't have to think about until she was older and had reached that moment they were always talking about in movies and television. The moment when you were 'ready' to take that step.
Cayden was neither ready or comprehending of what she did that night, her naivete finally getting the better of her. When the boy made excuses not the see her after that before finally disappearing back to wherever he came from, she finally realized what had happened. There had been no love involved -- at least, not on his part. He'd only been in it to sleep with her. For Cayden, it was like nothing she'd ever experienced in her life. Had ever thought to experience. She never told anyone, not even her blissfully oblivious mother. She pasted on a smile at her father's wedding and tucked her pain neatly away from prying eyes. To this day she has never had the courage to express the shame that summer wrought on her. Cayden has never been the same since that summer night -- becoming more withdrawn and reserved when it came to dating.
Now in her fifth year at school, the friends that had stuck with her during her summer of silence were that much more supportive of her when she came back. Cayden hasn't had the heart to tell them the change in her had been brought on by her own willfulness. When those private conversations popup between her and her girl friends, she demurs. When crude jokes are made, she forces laughter. Cayden is finally trying to move on and forget her very much jaded experience. Her heart is still bruised, but even bruises must heal sometime.
